JJC MFS-III Review: Best Budget MagSafe 67mm Filter Mount for iPhone

JJC MFS-III MagSafe 67mm Filter Mount Review – Full video breakdown and hands-on testing.

I’ve been testing a lot of MagSafe filter mounts over the years, and this new JJC MFS-III might honestly be the most useful minimalist solution I’ve used so far. It works on the iPhone 17 and 16 series, older iPhones, and even a couple of Android devices. And at under $40 USD, it’s genuinely one of the most affordable ways to add proper ND filters to your phone without buying a whole new case system.

Despite being almost perfect, there is just one issue you need to know about — and it’s important. We’ll get to that in a moment.

What You Get in the Box

JJC includes a surprisingly decent bundle here:

  • The MagSafe filter mount itself, with a cold shoe and ¼-inch tripod thread built in
  • A screwdriver
  • Two spare screws (handy if you want to remove the cold shoe or tripod mount entirely)
  • A magnetic sticker ring for phones that don’t natively support MagSafe — great for things like my Nubia Z50S Pro

Everything you actually need is here. Nothing extra. Nothing missing.

How It Works

If you’re using an iPhone 15, 16, or 17 Pro Max, the JJC mount extends outward — just pull the 67mm filter thread firmly and it locks into place.

If you’re using a non-Max iPhone, push it back in to contract.

Attach via MagSafe and that’s it.

The magnet is surprisingly strong, and JJC even built a second MagSafe magnet into the back so you can attach another accessory on top — like an SSD. This is something a lot of other mounts don’t bother with.

Using ND Filters

Because it supports standard 67mm threads, you’re not locked into any weird proprietary filter system.

I normally use it with a magnetic 67mm adapter ring, which lets me swap between:

ND filters are absolutely essential if you want 180-degree shutter motion blur outdoors, and both systems work really well with this mount.

Case Compatibility

One thing I love about this mount: it works with almost everything.

  • Works on a naked iPhone
  • Works with Apple FineWoven
  • Works perfectly with my Freewell Pro Filmmaker Case
  • Works perfectly with my Reeflex case

You don’t need to switch cases or buy into a closed ecosystem (like Moment, PolarPro, etc.). Use whatever case you already like.

Cold Shoe + Tripod = Actually Useful

The built-in cold shoe means you can attach a mic or LED light instantly.
The tripod thread means you can mount it on literally anything.

Most "dedicated" filmmaking cases make you buy extra accessories to get these mounting points.
JJC includes them out of the box — and you can even remove them if you want the mount to stay minimal.

Android Compatibility (Surprisingly Good)

It works on:

  • Pixel 10 Pro, thanks to Google’s “Pixel Snap” magnetic system
  • Most phones you can stick the included MagSafe ring onto - like the Nubia Z50s Pro

It does not work on Samsung devices — the S25 Ultra camera layout is too tall and the mount can’t sit properly.

The One Issue: Light Leaks

Here’s the only real weakness of the JJC MFS-III.

Because the mount doesn’t create a perfect seal around the iPhone’s lenses, there’s always a tiny gap.
Most of the time this is fine, but under very specific lighting situations — like bright backlight or sun hitting from the side — you can get:

  • Light leaks
  • Internal reflections
  • Weird flares bouncing off the ND filter

Not ideal.

How to Fix It

Luckily, the fix is almost embarrassingly easy:

  • A tiny bit of Blu-Tack solves it
  • OR (and this is the funny part): the Freewell Pro Filmmaker Case magnetic ring actually fits inside the JJC mount perfectly, giving you a complete seal and zero leaks

So this isn’t a dealbreaker, but you should know about it.

How It Compares to “Premium” Options

You might be wondering how this stacks up against something like the Freewell Pro Filmmaker Case or other dedicated systems.

Where premium cases win:

  • Perfect seal. No light leaks.
  • Support for 17mm lenses. You can attach anamorphic, wide, tele lenses — the JJC can’t do this.

Where the JJC mount wins:

  • Half the price. Easily the biggest reason to buy this.
  • Works on multiple devices. No need to rebuy a case every time you upgrade your phone.
  • Standard 67mm filters. Use whatever ND filters you already like.
  • Cold shoe + tripod mount built in. No extra accessories required.
  • Use your existing case. You’re not trapped in someone else’s ecosystem.

If you don’t need 17mm lenses, the JJC genuinely offers more flexibility.

Final Thoughts

For under $40, the JJC MFS-III is honestly excellent.

  • It attaches instantly
  • Works with almost every case I own
  • Supports proper 67mm filters
  • Even works on Android if you want it to

The only real downside is the potential for light leaks — but the fix takes about 3 seconds.

If you’re looking for a budget MagSafe 67mm filter adapter, or you’re specifically searching for the JJC MFS-III or JJC MFS-II, this one gets a very solid recommendation from me.
